The Wisconsin Hotel - Coming Summer 2025
A new independent hotel in Wisconsin Dells, Wis., will lean into the state’s heritage in a big way, from architecture and interior design to culinary and event space, even in its name, The Wisconsin Hotel. Construction began in mid-October on this one-of-a-kind property that will take over the footprint of the current Wintergreen Hotel at 60 Gasser Road, with a phased-in construction timeline supporting an opening date of summer 2025, just in time for the busy warm weather tourism season. The Wintergreen will continue to host guests through Jan. 6, after which The Wisconsin Hotel will open in phases, with the entire property opening early summer. The property is being developed by the local Waterman Family & Associates, known for their many tourism successes over six generations, including development and original ownership of the first Great Wolf Lodge and Noah’s Ark Waterpark, among others.
The hotel, shorthanded as “The Wisconsin,” has a design aesthetic that hearkens to classic farm structures with its soaring roofline, timber beams, and cupolas, and will feature 111 guest rooms, indoor and outdoor pools, a sunlit fitness center, wedding venue large enough for 300 that will also serve as corporate event space, and welcoming communal spaces with fire features both inside and outside. The standalone restaurant with seating for 200 fittingly borrows on the folksong, just with a plural, Farmer in the Dells, and will feature seasonally fresh ingredients sourced from local farms in homage to regional flavors, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The four-story Silo Bar, sure to be a landmark, will have a chic open-air rooftop bar with 360-degree views of this southwest corner of the community, including a view to Mirror Lake State Park. Richly textured natural materials of wood, iron, stone, steel, and leather reclaimed and sourced locally whenever possible in laidback hues of warm browns and grays will feature prominently throughout.
“Our concept is of a curated lifestyle hotel that embodies warm Midwest hospitality,” said Holly Waterman, representing The Wisconsin. “The vibe will be casual luxury reflecting regional culture, in other words, a cozy retreat where guests can sink in and unwind after a day of activities, share stories, and socialize in a place that has that charming feel of your favorite vacation getaway.” The owners will welcome families with children of all ages, family reunions, groups of friends, girls’ getaways, golf buddies’ trips, and weddings. The Wisconsin will be the only mid-sized hotel in the area with full event space as well as onsite food and beverage offerings including room service.
Tourism attractions within walking distance include Outlets at the Dells and Knuckleheads indoor amusement park, adding to the hotel’s appeal. The Wisconsin will provide shuttle service around town to guests as well. Within minutes guests can also explore Mirror Lake and Devil’s Lake State Parks and enjoy winter skiing, snowboarding, and tubing at Cascade Mountain and Christmas Mountain. The owners plan to offer a variety of packages featuring favorite attractions in Wisconsin Dells.
The Wisconsin Hotel is one hour from Madison, and three hours from Chicago and Minneapolis. It is conveniently located at exit 92 off I-90/94.
